As the Dr. Nicholas Vacc scholarship recipient, Madsen will receive $5,000 to support her counseling education and recognize her commitment to the counseling profession. Madsen is a graduate of Morningside University and the University of South Dakota and is currently a doctoral student in the counselor education and supervision program at Capella University.

Madsen is interested in researching the teaching practices of counselor educators during clinical experiences. She will focus on how counseling educators teach multicultural counseling skills, specifically skills appropriate for LGBTQ+ populations. She is currently a graduate assistant at Capella University, assisting with psychology courses in their undergraduate programs online. She is also a school counselor in a rural Pre-K thru 8th-grade public school in South Dakota. She serves students with various backgrounds, including physical and mental disabilities, immigrants, racially and ethnically diverse populations, and LGBTQ+ students. This scholarship will assist her in obtaining more training in research to increase the fidelity of her studies to share with other counseling educators.
