The NBCC Foundation scholarship program began in 2010 with 11 donor-funded rural and military master’s-level scholarships awarded. Since that time, the Foundation has distributed a variety of additional awards. In 2012, the Foundation awarded the first Center for Credentialing & Education (CCE) grant-funded scholarship to a Global Career Development Facilitator (GCDF). In 2013, NBCC was awarded the federally funded Minority Fellowship Program (MFP) grant that allowed the Foundation to distribute 24 doctoral-level minority fellowships. In 2014, the Foundation added eight donor-funded minority master’s-level scholarships along with four CCE grant-funded professional development awards and two Board Certified Coach (BCC) training awards. In 2015, NBCC was awarded two additional federal grants that allowed the Foundation to replace the minority scholarship with 68 master’s-level minority fellowships .

Currently, the Foundation awards donor-funded military and rural scholarships and CCE grant-funded GCDF scholarships (to students both domestic and abroad), professional development awards, and BCC training awards.
